Charles Viancin Food Covers

By: Bob Saunders

Charles Viancin silicon food covers are a very practical alternative for keeping food fresh.  Unlike cling film, this silicone lid can be reused over and over again while the lid seals tight on all smooth rims, meaning any bowl or pan can be used for food storage.

In a world that has too much single use plastic, these silicon covers are practical and responsible, while also looking very good when serving food - especially outdoors.

We trialled them over a family feast weekend when a mix of hot and cold food was served outside on the patio. Dishes like potato salad needed to be kept as cool and moist as possible while the barbequed prawns needed to keep their warmth.  We can tell you that the Lilypad lids excelled at both tasks and on top of that they also kept the flies off between servings - while looking very good on a packed table.

But then afterwards there were some leftovers so they were consigned to bowls and a lid (from many sizes in the range) was found to fit to be slid into a chokka fridge - some stacking on top of each other (and you can't do that with cling film.

I have to say I'm a convert now and I have a drawer in my kitchen with around a dozen or so lids of different sizes - and they all get plenty of use everyday.

I like the Lilypad design the best but there are a variety of other designs to suit your tastes and decor.

And not let's forget that silicon is a legend in the kitchen:

- it can take hot ovens up to 230c,

- makes a great splatter-guard when frying,

- is quite safe in the microwave

- and can be popped into the dishwasher afterwards for cleaning - sometimes just a wipe with a dishcloth is more than adequate.

And of course you'll be saving cling film from landfills too !!
