I like to soak chilli seeds in water for a few days - apart from making a good splash-on addition to spice up your food, its also an excellent pest deterrent. Things like aphids hate it - yet its a cheap and easy solution, just add a little washing up liquid and spray on. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. If you wipe your eyes with chilli water on your hands you'd curse me to kingdom come.
